Wheaten Terrier Rescue Colorado

If you’re in search of a wheaten terrier for adoption, you’ve come to the right place. A Wheaten is a graceful dog, with a smooth, easy gait. This breed is an impressive member of the terrier family, prized for its lively disposition and high energy level. While you may find yourself drawn to the sweet little dog, it is important to know that the rescue isn’t for every pet owner, so make sure to look around and see if this breed is right for you.

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers are headstrong, sensitive, and spunky, so they are not suitable pets for very young children. However, they can be fun for teenagers. Their strong, protective natures make them great companions for teens. The breed can be aggressive with other dogs of the same sex, but they’re typically sociable and friendly around other family pets.

Soft-Coated Wheatens are less aggressive than some other terrier breeds, but they still exhibit chasing instincts.

They are often capable of going over fences and the tops of them. It’s not possible to let them roam free off-leash, and they’ll inevitably go after small, running creatures. They should be confined in a room that is secure enough to prevent them from roaming freely.

The MWR does not adopt outside-only dogs. However, if you’re willing to drive to Omaha and pick up the dog, you can adopt a Wheaten from the rescue. Although you’ll have to travel from Omaha to adopt a Wheaten from MWR, you can also adopt a dog from S’Wheat Rescues in Missouri. Both of these organizations accept owner surrenders, but they require that you fill out an application, complete a vet reference check, and provide veterinary records and personal references.
