American Staffordshire Terrier Reddit
The American Staffordshire Terrier, also called the AmStaff, is a small, bull-type terrier with a distinctive face. It stands approximately 17 to 19 inches tall at the shoulder, and has a long, glossy coat, and has a springy gait. Its name means “game for anything,” and it doesn’t take much to excite or amuse this dog.
There are many differences between an American Staffordshire and a Pit Bull.
The AKC recognizes Pit Bulls and Amstaffs, but both breeds are classified under the American Staffordshire Terrier standard. The breed is also referred to as an American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) by some AKC judges. Although there are significant differences between AKC and UKC standards, these two breeds share similar background stock.
In general, the APBT is a smaller, more aggressive breed.
The AKC does not recognize them as separate breeds, and hobby breeders have focused on building them into strong, body-builder dogs. While Amstaffs are not recognized by the AKC as “terriers”, they are similar in terms of structure and accepted colors. They are also not as large as their counterparts.
