Cairn Terrier – A Yorkie Cairn Terrier Mix
The Cairn Terrier is one of several related breeds and is also known as Toto from the movie The Wizard of Oz. They were first developed in the British Isle of Skye in the 1600s and were originally used to rid farms of vermin. You may have seen the Cairn Terrier in the movie Toto, but did you know that they are named for a pile of rocks?
The Carrie is a cross between the Yorkshire Terrier and Cairn Terrier and is a cuddly, loving breed that is ideal for children of all ages. The Carrie is also a great companion for a family with children. The Cairn Tzu is another hybrid toy breed, created by crossing a Cairn Terrier with a Shih Tzu. This toy dog is small and foxy, with a long, soft coat in a variety of colors. Those with Carrie’s coat may find it to be black, cream, gray, or even red.
A Cairn Terrier and a Yorkie are a mix of two breeds, so care for this combination is relatively high. A Yorkie’s coat is slightly thicker and longer, so it is important to brush your dog regularly. Keeping your Cairn Terrier’s nails trimmed and their teeth clean is also important. A Cairn Terrier’s coat is also a bit shinier than a Yorkie’s.
The Cairn is affectionate and gets along with other dogs easily. They enjoy play sessions, but they do need moderate exercise and activities. Cairns are naturally curious and creative and will try to modify their yard and home to fit their activities. If you do not have a yard or a large backyard, you may want to consider a Cairn terrier as your first pet.
As a pup, Lola is a seven-month-old Yorkie-Cairn Terrier mix.
Her previous family had trouble potty-training her, so she’s been in foster care for a week. Lola is well socialized and enjoys playing with other dogs and cats. She’s also good with kids and other pets. However, Lola will require a dedicated owner and plenty of time to potty train her.
Like the Yorkie, the Cairn Terrier has feathered ears and a round, compact body. It weighs from thirteen to fourteen pounds and stands nine to ten inches high. Its eyes are deep brown and its face is described as fox-like. Cairns has a soft undercoat and a water-resistant outer coat. They are both small and have a very low-maintenance coat.
Originally, the Cairn terrier originated on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
They were named this because of their function, which was to chase vermin out of cairns. This breed is closely related to the Scottish and West Highland white terriers, but it is now a popular family pet and a top show dog. So, if you’re looking for a dog that has a regal appearance and a loyal personality, consider adopting a Cairn Terrier.
If you’re planning to keep your Cairn Terrier in an apartment, consider getting a Cairn Terrier rather than a Yorkshire Terrier. The Cairn Terrier is more likely to tolerate hotter weather than the Yorkshire Terrier and will tolerate it better if left alone. And it will also be better suited to apartment living, where the owner can leave the pet alone for six to eight hours at a time.
