The colored bull terrier Rufus recently won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club in New York. He beat six other strong contenders to impress a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden. Rufus’s distinctive egg-shaped head caught the attention of judge James Reynolds. “Puppyhead” is a common term for the head shape of a colored bull terrier. Rufus was the first colored bull terrier to win Best in Show at Westminster.

Despite his age, Rufus was still a champion in 2006. His Westminster win was the first of his breed. The Westminster Dog Show in New York City is a two-day extravaganza featuring 2,600 breeds. Rufus’ owners are Barbara Bishop of Holmdel and James Dixon of Stradbrook Kennels in Long Valley. The event may even be filmed for Animal Planet Dogs 101!
