How to Adopt an Irish Coated Wheaten Terrier
The Irish-coated Wheaten Terrier is an ancient breed. These dogs have been around for centuries in Ireland. The first recorded record was in 1785 in Co. Kerry, when an Mr.W.C. Bennett described his bitch as “wheaten colored” and “thirty years old”. The breed was bred by his family for many generations, and little has changed in the breed’s history.
The Wheaten Terrier is a medium-sized Irish terrier noted for its wheaten-colored coat. They are athletic, making them a great choice for agility shows. In addition to their athleticism, the Wheaten is an excellent indoor companion. Its soft-coated counterpart is graceful, medium-sized, and square-shaped. They are agile enough to catch vermin, but still strong enough to keep a firm grip on their owner.
The Irishman needs daily exercise, and he doesn’t mind being out in all kinds of weather. Although he isn’t particularly prone to allergies, he does need at least thirty minutes of exercise daily. You can keep him active with activities such as dog sports, jogging, or bicycle riding. This breed is easy to train and doesn’t shed. But, be sure to keep your dog’s food varied and healthy.
