Although the American Staffordshire terrier is not officially recognized by the American Kennel Club, it is an official breed of the Continental Kennel Club and United Kennel Club. They are both legal for breeding and sale in Canada. While the federal government does not regulate pit bull-type dogs, two provinces have adopted breed-specific legislation.
